Kamehameha Shopping Center is partnering with the state Department of Transportation, DTRIC Insurance and Toyota Hawai‘i with a “Drive Aloha Fair” on April 15th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to educate the public on the dangers of Distracted Driving, Impaired Driving, Pedestrian Safety and Children Passenger Safety. The fair is part of the state Department of Transportation’s community outreach programs to educate the public on traffic safety.
“Kamehameha Shopping Center is honored to be teaming up with the state Department of Transportation for this special event,” said Iris Kanno, General Manager of Kamehameha Shopping Center. “This is a great opportunity for our customers and merchants to learn how to be safer drivers and pedestrians.”
The following traffic safety activities will be represented:
DISTRACTED DRIVING SIMULATOR
Adults 18 and over can experience the dangers of distracted driving by using a digital driving simulator system that is hooked up to a Toyoto Hawai‘i vehicle. Participants will be asked to demonstrate a variety of distracted activities as they drive through a variety of traffic scenarios.
WALK WISE HAWAII – PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
All ages will learn about the Seven Steps to Safety and how to be more aware of pedestrian movement while driving.
CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY SEAT BELT FIT TEST
Parents will learn the proper way to fit a seat belt on their child and see if their child needs a booster seat.
IMPAIRED DRIVING EDUCATION
All ages will learn that impaired driving is more than just being under the influence of alcohol. They will learn that medicated driving can be equally as dangerous.
All participants will be given a Drive Aloha Fair Stamp Card. They will receive a stamp for each traffic safety booth visited to a change to win a $100 gas card from Aloha Gas. The winner will be announced that day. You do not have to be present to win.
